What is Electrolysis hair removal?

If you have excess facial or body hair, you know how limited your options can seem. Unwanted hair can make you feel self-conscious or embarrassed, and it can affect the way you look and feel significantly. Removing it is an option, but there are only so many methods to choose from, and many of them are time-consuming, painful, or inconvenient. Fortunately, there are permanent methods of hair removal that can allow you to live your life without worrying about constant shaving or tweezing, or keeping regular waxing appointments. We can remove most unwanted hair via our IPL laser treatment, but this therapy doesn’t work on red, very blonde, or white hair. For people with very light hair, Electrolysis Hair Removal is an effective option. Electrolysis is a proven method of removing unwanted hair permanently with a gentle electrical current to destroy the blood supply to the hair. It is ideally designed to remove unwanted facial hair although small areas on the body can also be treated. A combination of IPL and Electrolysis may be suggested if there is a combination of dark and light hair. This will speed up the results as electrolysis usually takes longer to achieve a result but is known as permanent, whereas IPL reduces the hair growth and takes less treatments. A highly trained professional will discuss the various treatment options to give you the results you desire. A comprehensive consultation will ascertain if Electrolysis is the correct treatment programme for you.

How does Electrolysis hair removal work?

A trained practitioner inserts a fine needle into the hair shaft and then a small electric current pass down the needle into the hair shaft to kill the hair’s root. When the hair grows back, it will be finer and weaker. After a few treatments, the hair follicle finally dies completely, and the skin is permanently hairless. The electrolysis machine determines the exact current necessary for the hair being treated. At Neue, we use Blend electrolysis. This method also uses a sterile single probe, but it combines 2 different modalities. The first produces a small amount of lye (14pH) from the natural salt and water in our skin. The second current uses Thermolysis (high frequency current) vibrate and intern melts the lye through the follicle. The blend of these 2 currents then destroys the dermal papilla which nourishes the hair follicle and makes the hair grow.
Our bodies are made to repair so multiple electrolysis treatments are needed weekly, fortnightly or monthly, depending on the area, amount of hair and growth cycle. Each electrolysis session can take as little as five minutes, then increasing depending on the size of the area. The growth cycle of the hair is important to achieve a successful outcome. If the hair is left to grow too long in between sessions, the dermal papilla will not be attached to growing hair and the treatment will not have achieve what it was meant to do. Your Neue technician will explain to you a treatment plan to give you the best result for your situation. It will be explained not to tweeze, wax or epilate the hairs in between your electrolysis sessions as firstly the hair needs to be in the growing stage and the technician need to be able to find the hair follicle. Tweezing, waxing, threading can encourage facial hair growth so please put the tweezers away! Understandably the embarrassment of hair growth is why one has the electrolysis performed in the first place, but the hair does not need to be long to treat. Only a couple of days growth is required and can be simply maintained with trimming or depilatory creams in between appointments.
